Vintage Ports/Sauterns
Ports come from Portugal and are called fortified wines because they are fortified with grape brandy to halt the fermentation. Ports are deep dark, sweet and intense in nature.
Dessert wines (Sauterns) are late harvest and Botrytised; tend to have honey, apricot, butterscotch, caramel and cream flavors and go well with honeyed desserts. A general rule is that the wine should be sweeter than the food it is served with.
